Sean Kinney Memorial Award
"For Excellence in Ohio Foster Care"
The Sean Kinney Award for Excellence in Foster Care was established in 2004 in memory of Sean Kinney, the adoptive son of Bill and Ruth Kinney of Conneaut, Ohio. Sean Kinney took his own life on his 3oth birthday in 2002.
The Kinney's wanted to honor their son for the joy and happiness that they brought into their lives for many years. Bill said, "'Foster care is the most challenging endeavor any couple might pursue. Like parenting, there are no manuals. You attempt to teach and love in order to bridge all the gaps. There are not guarantees You hope and pray. Ruth Ann and I know that Sean's life is a tremendous value to our family history. We hope that this Memorial Award will encourage others to take up the challenge to love a child unconditionally.
This award is presented during the Association's Annual Conference held in late January or early February.
